Don't Forget the Fox

So, last Friday I returned from the Southern Hemi (I saw Friday twice...trippy), and since my return the image of the fox has followed me. No, I didn't have the pleasure of playing with or seeing a wild fox. Instead, I encountered a delightful woman who believed us homo sapiens are capable of communicating with animals.

While I was shopping around Melbourne, Australia's "Vic Market," I was having a pleasant time, but nothing to really write home about--other than an overwhelming sense that several of the booths were owned by the same merchants. But when I came across a booth advertising "happy pants" I knew I was in for a treat.

After thumbing through a collection of silky hammer pants, oversized ponchos, hobo bags and head wraps, I discovered the merchandise's owner, a most likely 65-year-old woman who was the image of all things hippie. As I approached her to make my purchase, she was immediately drawn to my necklace, which happened to be a bronze fox that I picked up in Austin, Tx.

She identified the animal and began to tell me of the fox's grave misfortune. Naturally, she is reading a book about a group of people who have apparently developed the ability to converse with animals. These people had spoken with a group of foxes who told them they are planning to leave the planted because us humans have been killing them all instead of learning from them.

After bagging my purchase and handing me my change she reminded my to, "think of the fox." It's too bad we can't actually talk to animals...but I sure am thankful for that woman who quite literally made my day at the Vic Market.

I think I have an obsession...

I don't know about you, but I think I am really lacking in the turquoise department. I wouldn't mind some new massive rings either.

Come one, come all!

Sunday we visited a second-hand/antique wonderland (for free! thanks Elise!)

We walked around for hours, haggled with vendors, tried on every ring and gawked at all the beautiful furniture that we promised to return for when we get our own place.

{I spy with my little eye, three shoppers...}

After crossing the bridge to part two of the market we picked up:

Pair of black Charles David ankle boots $15

Ralph Lauren Belt $5

Gold necklace $15

Louis Vouitton Side Bag $38 (homeboy ran a hard bargain)

Coach Side Bag $15

Three silk Parisian tops $3 each

Plain brown leather belt $5

This patriotic bicyclist and his traveling family were definitely my favorite attraction.

Tanto, jump on it...

You guessed it...we hit up the annual Pow Wow at CSULB's famous Indian Burial Ground.

Everyone was dressed to impress:

and movin' to the groove (of the native drum to be exact)

There were arrows

hatchets
various animal skull rings
beautiful treasures
a cow-kid with a dagger, bells and some attitude
and an Indian Santa.
The Pow Wow was an absolute success, and we are amped for next year's festivities. Hopefully we can get our hands on some more traditional garb, we looked like real posers while trying on the authentic fox heads (R.I.P).

p.s. Stay tuned for the adventures/misadventures of Indian Joe

Oh the places you'll go

This past weekend was well worth the wait. Going back through our photos, it was hard to pick which one's fully embodied all that our long weekend had revealed to us. After mixing and stealing photos from Star and Katie I feel like I have acquired the sufficient amount of visual aid to properly portray the journey we experienced.

First off, the reason for the trip was because of a little band called "Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros."

I heard them once on an episode of Ugly Betty and fell in love. Originally Star and I got hyped when we heard they would be playing at coachella this year, but that dream soon fizzled away with the harsh reality that was our bank accounts. Than we found out they would be playing up north and decided instead to save our pennies and ROAD TRIP. Not only would we get to see the band, but also our dear friends Natalee and Allison (who are both polar o
pposites and sisters.) So we grabbed Katie and off we went.

Katie met us in the OC for some pre-road trip pho and candy. Than we "foot danced" our way up North to my trusty ipizzle, properly equipped with a "road trip to eddy" playlist. We made it to Brentwood in 6 hours, one tank of gas, nonstop, and after Starlin chugged two water bottles.

The adventure had begun.

The weekend consisted of a whirl wind of four major cities,

1. Brentwood
2. Berkeley
3. San Francisco
4. Santa Cruz.

Each place offering us something new and exciting.

Berkeley was first. On the way there Katie whipped out her mustache shaver and decided to show Allison what exactly she was missing out on. Which apparently was a groomed and smooth upper lip.

In Berkeley we: visited Buffalo exchange, ate thai food, and visited a doughnut shop. The drive home was beautiful with the green rolling hills and a moon set.

That night in Brentwood we went dancing for Allison's birthday and tore up the rug with old people.

The next day we planned on a trip to the $1 horse races BUT ended up getting there super late. On the bright side we didn't have to pay to get in BUT then we lost all of our money, 5 big ones.

Then we visited Haight street in San Fran where Star searched for a proper nose ring and we visited another Buffalo exchange.
The big day finally came for us to see our beloved band. The day started off with Jesus, as it should and of course we have pictures to show for it.
Made vegan pizza

Went to the candy shop in Santa Cruz

and FINALLY saw the band.
enjoy

Galentine's Day Extravaganza...

Sunday, what a fantastic day! Truly the best Valentine's day ever. We kicked it in the steam rooms and saunas, where Katie got yelled at by some bitter single ladies for opening the doors. Soaked in the baths, pools and roman tubs. Ate a magnificent lunch. Then lathered up in the mud baths:

Elise got creative with her placement...it's always a good idea to exfoliate the pits.

Katie didn't want to mess up her hair and make-up :)

Then out to dinner, and back home for some chick flicks and tasty cake! Nothing like hangin' with your galpals.

Green Thumb?

A few weeks ago I hit up my local Osh Hardware and Garden and thought I would try my hand at gardening. So I picked baby carrots.

Soil
Seeds
Water
and a long waiting process...

now look at them, they're finally growing!

I'd like to say I've got a mean green thumb, but it's probably best if I wait till the carrots are edible before making such a bold claim.

Tasty Goodness

Delish cupcakes sans butter, eggs or milk

peanut butter and dark chocolate frosting, compliments of Elise

years, weeks and days...

I couldn't find a calendar I loved this year, so I took matters into my own hands and made one.

Everyday is filled with color

and no two days are the same.

Elise had the same day planner struggles, so I made one for her too. Let me know if you want one too!

One Man's Junk

The Ghetto-fabulous GWC swap-meet...although we were swamped for time, Lise and I embarked on a fantastic scavenger hunt:

there were, bowls of jewels...

an illuminated Paul Simon...

acres of books...

and vinyls...

and after some concentrated digging, we found two hidden gems...Mamas and the Papas and Jim Croce!

overall, it was a footloose and fancy-free day!
